Meet the Comptroller

Elliott Auerbach, Comptroller

Ellenville native Elliott Auerbach, Ulster County's first Comptroller,  has constructed an office based on public accountability, acting as both the fiscal and moral conscience of County government and serving as the “watchdog” for the 183,000 residents of Ulster County.  Auerbach, whose career bridges the small and corporate business world as well as the public sector, has insisted upon “best practices” to ensure an efficient government that is responsive to the needs of its citizens by taking on the tough issues of fraud and abuse of taxpayers’ dollars.  He has vigorously reviewed the operations of the County’s departments, offices and functions to report wrong-doing, questionable practices and waste.

In addition to financial oversight, the Comptroller and his staff have created two very successful community based programs.  The first is a for-credit college intern  program in conjunction with SUNY New Paltz, Siena College, Marist College, SUNY Ulster and Mount Saint Mary.  To date there have been close to twenty students, both undergraduate and MBA candidates who have taken advantage of the mentorship opportunity.  The second program, partnering with the Ulster Regional Chamber of Commerce and Rondout Savings Bank, is called RECOGNIZING SUCCESS.  In its third year, this program draws attention to exceptional high school students throughout the county, who have stepped forward to make a difference in their school or community.   The office also participates in numerous local government business and educational programs throughout the county.
