Ulster County Executive Mike Hein Announces The Retirement Of Deputy County Executive Bob Sudlow

Following Decades Of Dedicated Public Service His Retirement Will Be Effective May 31, 2018

Kingston, N.Y. – County Executive Mike Hein announces that after an incredibly distinguished career in public service, Deputy County Executive Bob Sudlow has announced his intention to retire.  Bob has served the people of Ulster County for more than 46 years; beginning as a Probation Officer in 1972 and later becoming the Probation Department’s Director in 1996.  His career at the Ulster County Probation Department saw him garner many recognitions and accolades including being named the “New York State Probation Director of the Year” in 1999 and receipt of the Sara Tuller Fasoldt Award for Leadership and Humanitarian from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.  As the past president of the New York State Council of Probation Administrators and board member of the American Probation and Parole Association, he has been recognized as a leader in the implementation of technology, electronic monitoring, sex offender management, restorative justice and victims’ rights and services.  Bob’s commitment to Ulster County continued when Ulster County Executive Mike Hein appointed him the Deputy County Executive responsible for Government Operations and Public Safety in May of 2009.

“People with Bob’s dedication and commitment are few and far between, and today’s announcement signals the end of an extraordinary record of service to the people of Ulster County,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein.  “I want to thank him for all of his hard work done on the public’s behalf over the last four and a half decades and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.”

“Working in the County Executive’s Office has been a fitting culmination to my career and I want to thank County Executive Hein for that opportunity,” said Bob Sudlow.  “I have had the privilege to work with so many talented individuals over the years and have witnessed first-hand their desire to help the people of Ulster County and improve their lives in countless ways, I am grateful to all of them for the memories and their friendship.  My wife and I look forward to this new chapter in our lives.”

County Executive Hein continued, “I am also pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Rider as Bob’s successor.  As the Director of Purchasing, Marc is very knowledgeable of County government operations and is familiar with County departments having worked closely with each of them over the last four years.”

“I am truly honored that County Executive Hein has appointed me to serve as the next Deputy County Executive,” said Marc Rider.  “While I am excited for this new opportunity, I will greatly miss working side by side with Bob Sudlow as he has been much more than just a supervisor, but also a friend and mentor.  His commitment to public service is unparalleled and is someone whom I will work hard to emulate.”

After graduating cum laude from Pace University School of Law, Marc Rider holds a Juris Doctor and Environmental Law Certificate.  He has served as an Ulster County Assistant County Attorney and is currently the Director of Purchasing.
