County Executive Mike Hein Appoints Thomas Jackson Commissioner of Public Works

Kingston, N.Y. – Today, Ulster County Executive Mike Hein continued the tradition of appointing strong leaders with broad experience and well-rounded backgrounds to lead Ulster County Departments  when he named Thomas Jackson to be the next Commissioner of the Ulster County Department of Public Works.  Currently, he serves as the Director of the Ulster County Real Property Tax Service Agency. Upon assuming the role of Commissioner he will oversee over 200 departmental employees.

“We are fortunate to have an individual as qualified and with such a strong management background as Tom,” said County Executive Mike Hein.  “His experience as the Director of the Real Property Tax Service Agency and his previous tenure as the Town of Marbletown Supervisor where he oversaw all facets of municipal operations including public works projects, budgeting and personnel will be a strong asset as he transitions to the Department of Public Works.  Additionally, his experience as a licensed land surveyor, having served on the Ulster County Transportation Council and managed millions of dollars of federal and state aid funding for UCAT will be a tremendous asset as he leads the unprecedented $46 million ‘Building A Better Ulster County’ infrastructure improvement program forward in its third year.  I am confident that under his leadership, the Ulster County Department of Public Works will continue to deliver on-time and on-budget projects, such as the Carmine Liberta Bridge and scenic overlook in New Paltz and the Kingston Center of SUNY Ulster, for the residents of Ulster County.”

Since 2012 he has served as the Director of the Ulster County Real Property Tax Service Agency.  Previously, as the Public Transit Coordinator, he managed and tracked federal and state aid for Ulster County’s public transportation system, UCAT. Prior to his employment with Ulster County, he was the Supervisor for the Town of Marbletown from 1994-2003.

The Ulster County Department of Public Works is tasked with maintaining over 423 miles of county roads and 158 bridges.  It is also responsible for the operation and upkeep of all county buildings.  The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Ulster County Legislature.
