ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK IS ACCEPTING RESUMES FROM QUALIFIED PERSONS FOR THE POSITION OF DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF MENTAL HEALTH

This administrative position serves under the direction of the Commissioner of Mental Health as the second in command (and on behalf of the Commissioner in their absence) of the local governmental agency responsible for the Community Mental Health Program as set forth in the New York State Mental Hygiene Law.  The Deputy Commissioner of Mental Health coordinates and ensures that the residents of Ulster County have reasonable access to a system of services, including, but not limited to treatment, housing, community supports, vocational, preventative and medical services. In addition, the incumbent will assist the Commissioner of Mental Health in program development and implementation of the Behavioral Health Taskforce Plan, review and update Department of Mental Health contracts with community based organizations in receipt of New York State Aid funding, will chair the county’s SPEAK Coalition and coordinate local SPEAK events. The Deputy Commissioner of Mental Health makes recommendations to the Commissioner of Mental Health toward attaining a comprehensive community mental hygiene program.  General Supervision is exercised over professional, administrative, para-professional and clerical staff.

Candidates must meet the following Minimum Qualifications:  Either:
A.     Graduation from a registered college or university with a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology, current licensure as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in programs for the mentally ill, developmentally disabled or alcohol/substance abuse, two (2) of years of experience must have been in an administrative capacity; OR
B.     Graduation from a registered college or university with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, current licensure as a Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Master Social Worker issued by the New York State Department of Education and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in programs for the mentally ill, developmentally disabled or alcohol/substance abuse, two (2) of years of experience must have been in an administrative capacity.
COMPENSATION:   $97,807. annually
