Kingston, NY- Ulster County Executive Mike Hein announced today that his appointment for the Commissioner of Social Services is Michael A. Iapoce, Esq., the current Supervising Social Services Attorney and counsel to the Commissioner at the Department of Social Services (DSS).

Michael has worked for Ulster County DSS for the past 18 years in several capacities and is a life long resident of Ulster County.“Michael is going to be an outstanding Commissioner at Ulster County DSS. He is well respected by both the DSS staff and the outside community. His credentials, experience and demeanor are exactly what we need,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein.“Though, it was challenging to conduct a nationwide search under the County Charter’s current limited time requirements for Executive appointments, we were very fortunate to have the perfect candidate already employed locally.”

Michael Iapoce said, “I am extremely thankful for this opportunity to help the neediest people of Ulster County and to serve in the Hein administration in a higher capacity. Michael Iapoce has been the Supervising Social Services Attorney for the Department of Social Services since 2004. Before that, Mr. Iapoce was the Senior Social ServicesAttorney. He started his career with Ulster County as a Social Services Staff Attorney in1993. During his time with Ulster County, Michael has been responsible for providing counsel for programs such as Adult Protective Services, Medicaid, Child SupportEnforcement, Resource Recovery and Temporary Assistance.

Mr. Iapoce resides in the Town of Olive, New York with his spouse of 23 years, Judy.They have 3 children. Mr. Iapoce is a graduate of Onteora High School, received aBachelor’s degree from St Michael’s College in Winnoski, VT and his Juris Doctoratefrom Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, MA.
