County Executive Hein advises affected County residents to apply as soon as possible.

KINGSTON, N.Y.

For those experiencing damages caused by Hurricane Irene, October 31, 2011 will be the last day to apply for FEMA aid under the Individual Assistance program. Applicants may register by phone by calling 1-800-621-3362, over the internet at www.disasterassistance.gov, or in person at the Disaster Recovery Center located in the Business Resource Center in Kingston.

"The combined devastation brought by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee was catastrophic" said County Executive Hein. "Hurricane Irene was the worst natural disaster in our County’s history and we are still recovering from its damage. Fortunately, the residents of Ulster County can apply for assistance through FEMA, but time is running out. I urge all of our impacted residents to inquire about available FEMA aid as soon as possible."

Those experiencing damage from Tropic Storm Lee have until November 14 to apply.

Please note that the Disaster Recovery Center will be closing next Monday; October 31, 2011.

After that time, applicants must file electronically or over the phone.

To date over 3,200 Ulster County residents have applied for assistance under Hurricane Irene, yet only slightly more than 80 residents have applied under Tropical Storm Lee. Residents are reminded that they must file separately for each disaster.
