Website Is Part Of Executive’s Pledge To Deliver Transparent County Government
Kingston, NY – Today County Executive Mike Hein launched Ulster County’s newly redesigned website: www.UlsterCountyNY.gov. The goal of this effort was to create a site that is more user-friendly and allows for even greater transparency for citizens. The redesign includes a more efficient navigational structure with site-wide multi-language translation and easy access to online forms. Also included, are videos and examples of beautiful Ulster County scenery throughout.
“My Administration continually strives to enhance access and transparency for the residents of Ulster County and to make the people’s government more user-friendly,” said County Executive Hein. “This is about cutting through bureaucracy and better serving the people of Ulster County. The new site incorporates a number of improved tools to assist with quickly locating critical information. Now under the “Citizens Access” page, visitors to the County’s new website can easily access a wide array of County data, including contact information for government officials, in-depth budget information, financial reports, vendor contracts, and resolutions. This is only one of the countless improved areas. We encourage everyone to visit this site and utilize it often, as we are continually updating and enhancing the site.”
The new County website includes functionality that makes it much easier for users to search for desired content and is ADA-compliant. There are additional new sections, including “How do I?” and “County FAQs.” Another feature is the easy access to specific topics at the bottom of the Home Page where there are rotating buttons with topics such as “Citizens Access,” “Budget,” “Healthy Ulster County,” “S.T.R.I.V.E Project,” “Ulster County SPEAK,” and “Help Stop Welfare Fraud.” Importantly, during emergencies, a site-wide red “Emergency Alert” banner will be included at the top of the page with useful information for Ulster County residents and visitors.
“As a resident and co-owner of a business based in Ulster County, we fully appreciate the County Executive’s directive to create a user-friendly website for the County’s residents, businesses and visitors that was both comprehensive and easy to use,” said Mike Kilpatrick, a partner at Next Step Digital, the Kingston, NY company that designed and developed the site. “This was an ambitious and complex project for many reasons, but in the end, information is more accessible for the people of Ulster County than ever before. We are thankful and honored to have played a role with this project, and look forward to seeing Ulster County use their new website as an effective communications tool.”
Harris Safier, owner and principal broker of Westwood Metes & Bounds Realty, Ltd. and the incoming President of the Ulster County Board of REALTORS for 2014, commented “I am looking forward to viewing Ulster County’s new and improved website through the eyes of a thirty-five year Ulster County resident, as well as a businessman and active realtor. It is exciting to hear that the new site includes simple, intuitive navigation, allowing for minimal effort to obtain desired information. I commend County Executive Hein for continuing his efforts to make County resources and services readily available to the people and businesses of Ulster County, as well as those considering a move here. Progress like this will continue to bring us more new and talented people seeking the great lifestyle the County offers."
The website can be accessed at www.UlsterCountyNY.gov. The County Executive continued, “I urge all Ulster County residents to visit the new County website and learn about the services provided by the County.”
