Fire Departments and Ambulance Squads Throughout Ulster County Host Open House Day to Begin Fire Prevention Week

Posted September 28, 2009

Kingston, NY (September 28, 2009) - Many Ulster County fire departments and ambulance squads will be holding an open house on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 1 - 3 PM. This event not only denotes the start of Fire Prevention Week, but it is an opportunity for area residents to visit their local fire stations and ambulance buildings. Ulster County's on-going recruitment and retention campaign, which is geared toward increasing the number of volunteers in the County, is proud to partner with local fire and EMS providers in this event.

Ulster County Executive Mike Hein said, “I’m pleased that we have been able to help volunteer fire departments and rescue squads with their recruitment efforts. Our county-wide public service campaign has generated interest, however, many more volunteers are needed and the open houses scheduled on October 4th present a great opportunity for residents to visit their local firehouses and EMS squads, not only to meet some great people, but also to learn first-hand about the important work that they do.”

Residents who wish to learn more about volunteering in their local community volunteer fire department or rescue squad can also visit a special web site that Ulster County has set up for that purpose. The online address is:
