Presenters will share current labor market information and offer useful tools and expert advice on topics such as company branding, writing and advertising effective job descriptions, and using social media effectively to attract qualified candidates.  Specific strategies for human resource professionals, business owners and hiring managers to successfully engage with 20-35 year old job seekers will also be provided.

Ulster County Executive Mike Hein, the Ulster County Climate Smart Committee, and the Ulster County Office of Economic Development invite you to attend the launch of the Green Business Challenge (GBC). The event will highlight local green business leaders such as Bread Alone and will take place at Best Western, 503 Washington Ave., Kingston. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m., and presentations will begin at 8:00 a.m. Attendees will have a chance to speak with vendors, presenters and GBC Ambassadors.

Cost: $20 (includes breakfast)

The Ulster County Green Business Challenge is designed to encourage businesses, organizations and municipalities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate climate change and reap considerable savings. This program also supports local green building contractors, renewable energy providers and other businesses that implement sustainability practices. The event includes a roundtable with producers, a panel discussion and a networking reception co-hosted by Stockade Works, the Producers Guild of America, the Hudson River Maritime Museum and the Ulster County Film Office.

Local film/TV professionals are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to collaborate and discuss ways to increase the number of film/TV productions made locally.

To help Ulster County's food and beverage manufacturers address the challenges of logistics and distribution, County Executive Mike Hein and the Office of Economic Development are excited to present Michael Rozyne, founder of the innovative local food distribution company Red Tomato, and Todd Erling, Executive Director of the Hudson Valley Agri-business Development Corporation.

Light appetizers will be served, with a cash bar and items from a limited dinner menu available for purchase.

Speaker Bios

Michael Rozyne has been a marketer of family farm products for three decades. He worked on conventional and organic farms in Maine, and was Purchaser and Marketer for a regional food distributor in New England. He was cofounder of the fair trade coffee company, Equal Exchange. He started Red Tomato, a decentralized food hub in the Northeast, in 1996 and now works as Red Tomato’s Evangelist focusing on the growers, new business development, and product development.

Following Michael's remarks, Todd Erling, Executive Director ofHudson Valley Agribusiness Development Corporation will unveil the results of a recent study on food and beverage processing in Ulster County. With HVADC’s Board of Directors, Todd has developed the first regional entity to focus on farms and local food business as economic development in the Hudson Valley. HVADC provides assistance to ag-related and ag-dependent businesses through contracts with seven counties throughout the Hudson Valley. Since 2007 HVADC has assisted projects in accessing over $30 million in funding.
