To obtain a pistol permit, please contact the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office online or by calling (845) 340-4237 or (845) 340-3639.
To transfer your pistol permit from Ulster County to another county, the following steps must be taken:
- Complete two "Gun License Amendment" forms, which can be found at https://ulstercountyny.gov/sheriff/pistol-permits
- Submit two $5.00 checks or money orders, one payable to the Ulster County Clerk and the other payable to the county to which you are transferring.
- Mail both completed Amendment forms and the two payments to:

Kingston, NY 12402 - You are required to recertify your permit five years after the date your permit was issued and each five years thereafter. As a permit holder, it is your responsibility to recertify your permit whether you receive a notification letter or not.
