Human Rights Award Nominations
The Ulster County Human Rights Commission is pleased to announce the launch of its FIRST Annual Human Rights Community Recognition Award to recognize both an individual and organization/business in Ulster County who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing, supporting, and protecting human rights in our community. We invite the public to submit nominations for individuals and organizations/businesses that exemplify the values of equality, dignity, and justice for all.
A PDF form is also available, and may be submitted by email to humanrights[at]co.ulster.ny[dot]us or mailed to Ulster County Human Rights 13-199 Development Ct. Suite 600 Kingston, NY 12401.
All nominations and supporting materials must be received by October 1, 2025.
Mission
The Ulster County Human Rights Commission exists to foster respect for the rights of all people and to explore opportunities for improving relations among all people of Ulster County.
Overview
The Human Rights Law in NYS states that every citizen has an “equal opportunity to enjoy a full and productive life.” This law protects you from discrimination in areas such as employment, education, credit, and purchasing or renting a home or commercial space based on your:
- Race
- Creed
- Color
- National origin
- Sexual orientation
- Military status
- Sex
- Age
- Marital status
- Domestic violence victim status
- Disability
- Pregnancy-related condition
- Predisposing genetic characteristics
- Prior arrest or conviction record
- Gender Identity or Expression
- Familial status
- Lawful source of income (in housing only)
- Retaliation for opposing unlawful discriminatory practices
Here’s how to get started if you believe you’ve experienced discrimination:
- Fill out the complaint form, answer all of the questions, and sign the form. If possible, type the form. If you are filling out the form by hand, please print it.
- Attach copies of any documents that you think will help the Department investigate the case (pay stub, letter of termination, performance evaluation disciplinary notice, etc).
- Return the completed complaint form to the Department. You may return the complaint by postal mail to the offices located at 13-199 Development Court, Suite 600, Kingston, NY 12401, email your complaint to infohr[at]co.ulster.ny[dot]us, or fax it to (845) 338-2349.
- Keep a copy of your complaint and copies of any documents you attach for your own records.
