STOP-DWI Impaired Driving Crackdown Runs October 30-Nov 4, 2018

Kingston, NY – Ulster County Executive Mike Hein announces that police agencies throughout the County will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving around Halloween.  The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on October 30 and will end on November 4. Law enforcement agencies across New York State will collaborate and will be out in force in this coordinated effort to reduce the number of impaired driving-related injuries and deaths.

“Halloween is meant to be scary, but not for drivers or pedestrians, especially our children who will be out trick-or-treating,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein. “I encourage anyone who is traveling on the roadways this Halloween to be extra vigilant for children and pedestrians and to have a plan by appointing a designated driver ahead of time or arranging for alternative transportation like ridesharing or taxis.  I urge everyone to be responsible and not drive impaired.”

The STOP-DWI Halloween Crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association with additional funding from the STOP-DWI Foundation courtesy of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.  The Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign also targets Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Holiday Season, Super Bowl weekend and St. Patrick’s Day.

Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign aim to further reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving. In October of 2017, there were 141 arrests in Ulster County for Driving While Impaired and Driving While Ability Impaired.
