The Service Will Take Place Thursday, May 26th At 8:00pm At The Ulster County Memorial Roll Of Honor Located In Front Of The County Office Building In Kingston
Kingston, N.Y. – Ulster County and local Veterans invite the public to begin the Memorial Day weekend by honoring Ulster County’s Veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country at a solemn candlelight ceremony at the Ulster County Memorial Roll of Honor located in front of the County Office Building at 8:00pm on Thursday, May 26th (rain date Friday, May 27th). The Memorial Roll of Honor was dedicated last year and lists all of the military conflicts, beginning with the Revolutionary War, and the names of Ulster County Veterans who died in combat.
Michael P. Hein, Ulster County Executive
“We must never forget the brave heroes who gave their lives for this country and our freedom. It is important that we pause and pay them the respect and honor they deserve, and acknowledge that without their sacrifice there would be no nation, no state, and no county,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein. “I invite everyone to join us at the Memorial Roll of Honor as we show those that we lost are not forgotten.”
Ira Weiner, Commander of the Ulster County American Legion
“Since last year’s dedication of the Memorial Roll of Honor, Ulster County has a fitting tribute to our servicemembers who gave their lives on behalf of us all,” said Ira Weiner, Commander of the Ulster County American Legion. “But simply constructing a monument is not enough; we must gather to honor the fallen, remember their sacrifice and demonstrate why we are the greatest country in the world.”
This year an additional ten names were added to the Ulster County Memorial Roll of Honor as further research has revealed ten additional servicemembers from Ulster County who were killed in action in service to our country. Please check the Ulster County website http://ulstercountyny.gov/ in the event of inclement weather to learn if the ceremony has been postponed.
