KINGSTON MAN INDICTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

Posted March 1, 2024

Kingston, NY—On Friday, March 1, 2024, Michael D. Ector, age 61, of Kingston, NY, was arraigned on an indictment for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and seven counts of Eavesdropping in the Second Degree in addition to other charges.

The indictment arises out of an incident on June 8, 2023, when Ector attacked his intimate partner and pointed a .25 caliber gun to her head, which then jammed. Ector was arrested and remanded without bail in June 2023. The defendant had been eavesdropping on his victim for months by placing listening devices in her car and home. Kingston Police Department led the investigation and made the subsequent arrest, resulting in his incarceration at the Ulster County Jail. Chief Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Culmone-Mills said, “Two thirds of women killed by an intimate partner are killed by gun violence. This indictment sends a strong message to our community: gun and intimate partner violence in our community will not be tolerated.”

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. This case is being prosecuted by Chief Assistant Culmone-Mills. The defendant is represented by Clifford Owens of the Ulster County Office of the Public Defender.
