Kingston, NY – County Executive Mike Hein announced that the ‘Kingston City Alms House’ located at 300 Flatbush Avenue in Kingston will be proposed for state and national register historic designation.

“My administration made its position clear at the very first meeting with the Friends of Historic Kingston last year, we will not support any plan that will harm the historic integrity of this magnificent property which the County has maintained so well for decades,” said Ulster County Executive Mike Hein.  “We are excited to ensure this majestic building remains intact for generations to come, and I welcome the recent additional community interest and the various leaders who are joining us in support. Ulster County is steeped in history which is why we are so proud to offer the Persen House, the County Courthouse, Perrine’s Bridge and countless other historic locations throughout Ulster County, as well as our annual Cultural Heritage Week celebration.”

“When members of Friends of Historic Kingston met with County Executive Hein last year, it was quickly agreed upon that the 300 Flatbush Avenue building would be preserved and we are pleased to work with the County Executive and the Economic Development Alliance to file the application for historic designation,” said  Jane Kellar, Executive Director of Friends of Historic Kingston.”

The ownership of this facility currently rests with the Ulster County Economic Development Alliance (UCEDA) as transferred from the Ulster County Legislature in order to market the property and manage the sale of the 14 acre parcel.
