Kingston, NY - Ulster County Executive Mike Hein received the Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center’s Honorary Mid-Hudson SBDC Counselor Award this morning because of his exceptional efforts on behalf of businesses in our community.

Arnaldo Sehwerert, Ph.D., Regional Director of the Mid-Hudson SBDC

“This award is a very internal, family kind of thing but one that means a lot to us. We vote and the decision must be unanimous. In Mike Hein’s case, it signals that we consider him as part of our family and team and we recognize his contributions to the values of the Center, which is service and commitment to the small business community.  A significant portion of the businesses our office helps each year are in Ulster County, and we partner regularly with the County Executive’s Office of Economic Development.”

Arnaldo Sehwerert continued, “National SBDC Day celebrates small business and those who fuel the entrepreneurial spirit. In our region, we come together as a team: the SBA, the State University of New York, SUNY Ulster, SUNY New Paltz, the Catskill Watershed Corporation, ESD, the Chambers of Commerce of Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange Counties, and our elected officials at federal, state and local levels. We thank them all and express our special gratitude to Ulster County Executive Mike Hein for his extraordinary support to regional economic development.”

Michael P. Hein, Ulster County Executive

“It is an honor to be recognized by such a dedicated and hard-working team who understand the importance of small businesses to our community and our local economy and work tirelessly to help them succeed.  The efforts of Arnaldo Sehwerert and his staff are admirable.  They roll up their sleeves and work with entrepreneurs from the time of business conception to the ribbon cutting, and then on through business growth and expansion.  I will share this Award with my Office of Economic Development, Office of Employment & Training and Tourism and Planning departments, because together we strive to make Ulster County a wonderful home for small business.”

Sam Kandel, Business Counselor at the Mid-Hudson SBCD

“Serving the needs of the small business community in Ulster County is a distinct honor.  What we at the SBDC invest in time and energy with our clients, the community gets back in spades with investment, job creation, and economic prosperity.”

John Moriarty, Business Counselor at the Mid-Hudson SBDC

“I think the SBDC support to our clients helps them "beat the odds" as they step out into a business environment that is complicate and tough.”
