Ulster County’s labor pool includes residents of Ulster, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, and Sullivan Counties in New York State, with a combined population of over 580,000 between the ages of 25 and 64. Ulster County residents work where they live: two-thirds of County residents commute within the County.

Ulster County Total Population: 182,607

Approximately 62% of Ulster County’s population is of working age (20-65) and people are now working longer and retiring later.

Ulster County’s population is also fairly balanced. The most-populated municipalities include the City of Kingston and the towns of Saugerties, Shawangunk, New Paltz and Wawarsing:

Kingston: 23,893 (13%)

Saugerties: 19,482 (11%)

Shawangunk: 14,332 (7.9%)

New Paltz: 14,003 (7.7%)

Wawarsing: 13,157 (7.2%)

Ulster County also has a highly educated population with over 87% of those 25 years and older having a high school diploma or higher. And over 29% of the population 25 years and older holding a bachelor’s degree or higher.
