Statement from County Executive Pat Ryan on DEC Decision Regarding Danskammer

Posted October 27, 2021

“I applaud the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on their decision to deny the Title V Permit application for the proposed Danskammer project. As I stated in my April letter to the DEC opposing the project, ‘Danskammer is the wrong project at a pivotal time for our community.’ It offered an outdated dirty energy solution to a problem that requires a modern, clean energy approach in an area known for its historical roots in the environmental movement. As Ulster County Executive and as the Chair of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) Climate Resiliency Committee, this decision aligns with our commitment to lean into the new green economy, transition our county operations to 100% renewable energy by 2030, continue to turn brownfields into solar fields, and train a new generation of workers in the expanding clean technology industry.”
