2nd Floor of County Office Building to Be Named ‘The Ulster County Clerk’s Office and Nina Postupack Historical Center’

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger applauded a resolution passed unanimously this evening by the County Legislature to rename the 2nd floor of the County Office Building as “The Ulster County Clerk’s Office and Nina Postupack Historical Center.” Last November, less than a month after the passing of the former County Clerk on October 10, the County Executive proposed dedicating the building in Nina’s name to honor her momentous contributions and legacy. When a second resolution was introduced by Legislator Gregory McCollough to dedicate the second floor of the building in her name, the County Executive offered her support for the alternative proposal.

“For many decades and for countless residents, Nina was the face of this building, and she truly set the standard as a public servant in her professionalism and in the kindness, fairness, and respect she showed everyone who walked through the door,” said Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger. “Nina also did so much to honor and preserve the history of Ulster County, and it is a fitting tribute to her legacy to rename the second floor, where she worked for 45 years and where the historical Archives Gallery that she created is on permanent display. I want to thank Legislator McCollough for introducing this resolution and look forward to signing it.”

“It is our duty to honor a truly special person that dedicated her life to service,” said Legislator Gregory McCollough (D-6, Kingston), sponsor of the resolution to name the 2nd floor in her honor.

Postupack began her long career of public service in the County Clerk’s office in 1979, and was appointed Deputy County Clerk of the Recording Department in 1982, and then as Chief Deputy Clerk in 1990 and as Acting Clerk in 2005. She made history when she was elected County Clerk in 2006,  becoming the first woman in Ulster County to be elected to a countywide office. Postupack served as Ulster County Clerk until 2024, when she retired in August, after 45 years of dedicated and distinguished public service, marking the end of an extraordinary career.
