KINGSTON, N.Y. - Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announced today the appointment of Loren M. Johnson as the new Director of Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT). Johnson brings to Ulster County 18 years of experience in providing servant leadership within private and public sectors, including state and local government, social services, public education and transportation.

“UCAT is an essential service in Ulster County, and Loren Johnson will be a tremendous asset as Director of UCAT with his proven commitment to improving services and equitable access in transportation,” County Executive Pat Ryan said. “Loren is eager to build upon the foundation of sustainability that we’ve set forth, particularly with our Green Fleet goals.”

“It is with great honor, humility, and gratitude to be entrusted by County Executive Ryan to lead UCAT in providing quality transportation services for the residents and visitors of Ulster County,” Loren M. Johnson said. “I believe in the wisdom found in an African Proverb ‘If you want to go fast go alone, and if you want to go far go together.’ This has defined my approach of working with others to lead operations to achieve sustainable successes over the years and I look forward to building new relationships within Ulster County.”

Johnson attained a dual Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice (2005) from nearby Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT. He is currently enrolled in DePaul’s University Kellstadt Graduate School of Business where he is working towards a Master in Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in data analytics.

Johnson is known for his development and implementation of the largest nonprofit transportation operation in Northwest Ohio, Community Transit Services (CTS).  He was also the first minority elected as the Director At-Large for Ohio Association of Pupil Transportation for his dedication to advocating for the pupil transportation industry, ensuring safe, equitable service for students throughout Ohio.
