County Executive Ryan announced that the Health Department is once again recruiting volunteers to ensure as many residents can receive the booster and be vaccinated in a rapid and safe manner
Medical and non-medical volunteers will be provided a stipend
Kingston, NY – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announced today that the Ulster County Department of Health is again actively seeking medical professionals and retirees, as well as non-medical volunteers, to assist with the County’s vaccination efforts. The call for volunteers comes in advance of the winter indoor gathering season and approval of booster doses for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine recipients as well as an anticipated expansion in vaccine eligibility by age group. From vaccinators, medical screeners to patient flow coordinators, Ulster County has a wide variety of opportunities to volunteer and serve the community at another critical moment in the pandemic. Additionally, Ulster County is providing a stipend for medical and non-medical volunteers.
“All of our efforts related to the pandemic have been heavily powered by an incredible group of volunteers. Residents from all over the county have come together and said they want to step up and serve and help their community, and we’ve had hundreds of folks with both medical and non-medical experience volunteer at our vaccination sites,” said Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan. “As we continue to stay proactive and really be leaning forward in anticipation of the winter coming, we’re asking everyone to once again volunteer. We do need more volunteers so we can be ready.”
In late August, Ulster County reopened the COVID-19 vaccine POD (Point of Dispensing) at the former Best Buy site at the Hudson Valley Mall to administer booster doses as well as the vaccine series. The POD is open every Friday to administer Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Additionally, the County is running PODs in targeted Ulster County areas to expand accessibility, including at each of the nine district high schools to reach the 12-17-year-old population and provide booster doses in each locality. Volunteers are needed at both the Hudson Valley Mall and pop-up PODs.
