"The fire and displacement of the residents of Chiz’s is an absolute tragedy. From the moment the fire call came in, Ulster County has been working to ensure that all residents are safe and that we can provide them with housing, transportation, clothing, and whatever else they may need. The fourteen displaced residents were immediately transported by UCAT to the Andy Murphy Midtown Center. Through our Department of Social Services, and with the help of the Red Cross, we have already secured emergency housing and funds for these individuals. We are continuing to monitor the situation and we stand ready to assist these residents during this difficult time. I want to thank the Kingston Fire Department and all of our first responders for acting quickly and professionally to ensure the safety of all of those involved."
