New Position Aims to Bolster Services and Programs for Southwestern Ulster County
Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger has appointed Janet Marie Nuñez to the new position of Site Program Manager at the Trudy Resnick Farber building in Ellenville. The position was created as part of a larger effort by the County Executive to reinvigorate the Trudy Resnick Center as a hub for County services, resources, and community programs in southwestern Ulster County. The new position was one of the top suggestions that came out of community forums organized by the Executive's office to gather input on a "reimagined" Trudy Resnick Farber Center that better serves residents' needs.
A community Meet and Greet with Janet is planned for Friday, March 21, from 12 to 1 p.m., at the Trudy Farber Center, and residents are invited to stop by and learn more about her role and the services provided. The Center is located at 50 Center Street in Ellenville.
Nuñez brings to her new role a wealth of experience in human services and a deep knowledge of the Ellenville/Wawarsing community. As a bilingual professional, fluent in both English and Spanish, Nuñez will be able to serve the whole community, including the nearly 30% of Ellenville residents who speak Spanish in the home.
Most recently, Janet served as Assistant Program Director for Family of Ellenville, where she connected a diverse population to services, advocated for clients to obtain benefits, performed short-term crisis counseling, and assisted with training, information, and referrals. Prior to this position, she served as an Adult Case Manager Specialist and Evolve Facilitator at Family of Woodstock, where she provided client-centered services and resources to assist individuals and families in reaching their goals.
As Site Program Manager at the Trudy Farber Center, Nuñez is responsible for connecting people with available community services, programs, and resources to address their needs — no appointment necessary. Nuñez will serve as a NY Connects liaison, a New York State program that provides information about long-term services and supports available to residents. She will also coordinate programming and organize events at the Center, and will help create a welcoming and inclusive space where individuals and their families can access essential services, participate in recreational activities, and build connections with their community. Nuñez will work closely with local organizations, government agencies, and community leaders to identify and promote available resources, such as healthcare services, education programs, and employment opportunities, ensuring that everyone has access to these vital services. With her extensive experience in program management and community outreach, Nuñez is well-equipped to build strong relationships with stakeholders, foster partnerships, and drive positive change in the community.
“I am thrilled to welcome Janet Nuñez to our team," said County Executive Jen Metzger. "Her extensive background in human services, bilingual skills, and deep familiarity with the Ellenville/Wawarsing community make her an ideal candidate for this role. She is a positive, can-do person who cares deeply about the community, and will be an invaluable resource to the residents of Ellenville/Wawarsing and neighboring towns."
“Community is powerful and provides belonging. Its identity and strength are defined by its resources and its members who hold space, place, and time,” said Nuñez. “I’m looking forward to seeing a diverse community of generations, cultures, abilities, and socio-economic classes come together to become cohesive and nurturing to all. The Trudy Resnick Farber Center can be the vibrant hub of community and resources that can support and reflect the resilience, tenacity and value that is Ellenville and its neighbors.”
Nuñez is currently working toward her Human Services degree, and will continue to volunteer at Family of Woodstock. In addition to her professional achievements, Nuñez is a member of the Ellenville Central School District My Brother’s Keeper program.
