“March 8th marks one year since Ulster County was notified of our first case of COVID-19. What followed that day was a year of challenge and crisis, but it also highlighted our resilience and sense of community. Sadly, we have lost over 200 of our neighbors and loved ones to this horrific virus and the heart-wrenching reality is that, although we have made great progress, we’re still very much in it.
The action plan recommends the creation of an ongoing Housing Task Force, partnerships with developers to build housing within the fabric of existing neighborhoods on vacant lots, adaptive reuse of existing structures for housing, the creation of supportive and transition housing and the establishment of housing funds for housing initiatives in the County
Responses signal strong interest from a range of partners to put the long-dormant site back to productive use, creating jobs and providing local tax revenues
Proposal includes satellite college campus, arts and maker space, and agricultural manufacturing facilities
