DEPUTY DIRECTOR FOR THE OFFICE OF THE AGING
Entry Salary is $51,000 annually

The successful candidate will serve, under the general direction of the Ulster County Director for the Aging, in carrying out the mission of the Ulster County Office for the Aging and having responsibility for:
- administering geriatric programs as they apply to service delivery to the aged within the framework defined by New York State Law, department rules and regulations and administrative policies;
- managing the various functions involved in the daily operation of administering geriatric programs including coordinating, evaluating and monitoring county programs providing services to the elderly including nutritional guidance, meals, homemaker services, home health services, ID discount services, legal aid, recreation and transportation services;
- assessing the needs of seniors in the county in order to modify existing programs and/or implement new programs and to carry out writing grant proposals and contract management for the provision of services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social science, management, public administration, public health administration, business administration or closely related field and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time paid experience in a recognized social agency adhering to acceptable standards which provides or coordinates the provision of human services, which must have been in an administrative supervisory position which included responsibility for planning, directing or coordinating the administration of service programs and been working in a program providing services for the aging.
An incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of the modern principles and practices of gerontology case work and the administration of such programs; thorough knowledge of federal, state and local public laws and programs as they pertain to the senior population; good knowledge of resources in the public and private sector available to seniors; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to prepare clear and accurate records and reports and the ability to prepare grant applications.

Special Requirement for appointment to Ulster County positions: In accordance with Ulster County Legislative Local Law Number 14 of 2007 or by other State and Federal Statutes, candidates for employment to all Ulster County positions must obtain clearance for appointment from the Department of Criminal Justice System or other mandated Federal and State regulatory authority based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check. This position will require a criminal background check and a candidate will be required to complete and sign a Criminal Background Investigation Release Form. Upon a conditional employment offer, a candidate will be required to be fingerprinted accordingly.
