Articles of agreement made and concluded this twen ty first day of December one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven, between Jeremiah Merritt of the town of Rochester, County of Ulster and State of New York of the first part and Jacob J Schoomaker, Benjamin Harcourt , Peter N. Decker, Jacob H. DeWitt & George G. Graham, of the County of Ulster (a commith appointed by the board of Supervisors of the County of Ulster for the purpose of purchasing a Site for a poor House, of the second part Witnesseth that the party of the first part doth covenent & agree with the parties of the second part to sel and convey to the bord [sic] of Supervisors of Ulster County the title to be free from all [incumberence] a Lot of Land situated in the town of NewPaltz in the County of Ulster, and bounded as follows; on the north by the lands of Corneluis D. Hasbrouck, West by Ebinezer Hilbey, South by Thomas Merritt and East by the Wallkill, containing sixty acres together with all the buildings and appuratenances [sic], thereunto belong excepting the grave yard about forty eight feet squareing on in any appertaining to Possession together with the title Deed and Map of the said Lot to be delivered on the fifteenth day of April next When and for which above described Lot, the parties of the second part doth hereby promise and agree to pay to the said party of the first part the full sum of two thousand Dollars. In the mean time the said party of the first part, is not to commit or suffer any wash on the promises
