Assistant District Attorney
ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK IS ACCEPTING RESUMES FROM QUALIFIED PERSONS FOR THE POSITION OF
ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Ulster County’s District Attorney is looking for local Criminal Court Assistant District Attorneys handle felony arraignments and misdemeanor cases which arise and are prosecuted within the municipal jurisdictions to which s/he is assigned. In the case of misdemeanors and selected violations, the ADA handles all phases of the prosecution which include arraignment, calendar appearances, motion practice, witness preparation, legal research, pre-trial hearings, and trials. The ADA may be required to participate in investigations occasionally, and often advises law enforcement personnel on legal questions or issues. S/he reports to a managing attorney, and develops a professional working relationship with law enforcement, judges and court personnel, and the local defense bar. The ADA may be assigned to other cases or projects at the discretion of the District Attorney or managing attorneys. All ADA’s are required to adhere to the highest ethical standards in their professional and personal conduct.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Admission to the Bar of the State of New York.
Special Requirement for Acceptance of Applications: Eligibility for admission to practice as an attorney at law before the courts of the State of New York at the time of application. Admission to the Bar of the State of New York at the time of appointment. Residency in Ulster County will be required within six (6) months of appointment.
NOTE: Excellent writing and research skills are necessary. Prior defense or prosecutorial experience, proficiency in a second language, or other relevant experience are plusses, but not required. Writing samples, references, and other requirements may apply.
Salary and benefits: $65,000. + DOE. Ulster County provides excellent medical, dental and vision benefits to its employees, and vacation and sick time based upon time in service. Employees are also enrolled in the New York State retirement system, and may participate in other benefits, including using Deferred Compensation.

Special Requirement for appointment to Ulster County positions: In accordance with Ulster County Legislative Local Law Number 14 of 2007 or by other State and Federal Statutes, candidates for employment to all Ulster County positions must obtain clearance for appointment from the Department of Criminal Justice System or other mandated Federal and State regulatory authority based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check. This position will require a criminal background check and a candidate will be required to complete and sign a Criminal Background Investigation Release Form. Upon a conditional employment offer, a candidate will be required to be fingerprinted accordingly.
