SALARY:

$22.88 per hour (Grade 12)

When such a vacancy is announced, employees who wish to be considered shall be allowed to file appropriate notice within ten (10) working days following the announcement of the vacancy.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class is responsible for the fire inspections of all County facilities and the record keeping duties related to this function.  In addition, the employee will be required to respond to motor vehicle accidents on County roads.  Supervision is not a function of an employee in this class.  Does related work as required.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code regulations;  good knowledge of road accidents and their causes; good knowledge of record keeping functions; ability to prepare reports; ability to gain the cooperation of others; ability to understand and interpret oral and written material; willingness to respond to calls on a 24 hour basis;  physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years’ experience in a position which involved knowledge of building inspection functions and procedures; and one year of experience in a position involving knowledge of road accidents and their causes.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State Driver's license at time of appointment.

Special Requirement for appointment to Ulster County positions: In accordance with Ulster County Legislative Local Law Number 14 of 2007 or by other State and Federal Statutes, candidates for employment to all Ulster County positions must obtain clearance for appointment from the Department of Criminal Justice Services or other mandated Federal and State regulatory authority based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check.
