DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An incumbent in this class is responsible for the direct supervision of employees assigned to the operation and maintenance of an Ulster County park and/or pool area. An employee in this class is responsible for the direct supervision of a crew assigned to maintenance, grounds keeping and lifeguard duties.  Direct supervision is received from the Park Supervisor with supervision duties limited to providing general oversight over lower-level employees to assure that scheduling is appropriate to cover acceptable levels of service.  Does related work as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the tools, equipment and material used in park and/or pool operations and grounds keeping; working knowledge of the common safety and sanitary precautions of park and/or pool use; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with the public; ability to understand oral and written instructions; dependability; courtesy; tact; physical condition commensurate to the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One season of paid experience in park and/or pool maintenance or grounds keeping activities.
Special Requirement for appointment to Ulster County positions: In accordance with Ulster County Legislative Local Law Number 14 of 2007 or by other State and Federal Statutes, candidates for employment to all Ulster County positions must obtain clearance for appointment from the Department of Criminal Justice System or other mandated Federal and State regulatory authority based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check. This position will require a criminal background check and a candidate will be required to complete and sign a Criminal Background Investigation Release Form.  Upon a conditional employment offer, a candidate will be required to be fingerprinted accordingly.
