ARIEL SUPPLE SENTENCED TO STATE PRISON FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT AGAINST HER INTIMATE PARTNER
Kingston, NY—On February 7, 2024, Ariel Supple, age 29, of the Town of Ulster, was sentenced to seven years in state prison with three years of post-release supervision by the Honorable Bryan Rounds of Ulster County Court. The sentencing followed a jury trial last September in which she was convicted of Assault in the Second Degree, a violent felony which carries a maximum of seven years in prison under New York State laws. She had also pleaded guilty to Driving While Ability Impaired by the Use of Drugs in unrelated case.
The conviction and sentence arose out of an incident on July 22, 2022, when Supple used a knife to stab and slash her former boyfriend. She then took the victim’s sneakers and smeared them through a pool of his blood and threw them out the back door. The victim called 911 and was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for multiple injuries and received more than 20 stitches.
The Town of Ulster Police Department promptly responded and conducted an investigation led by Detective Sergeant Cheryl Benjamin: “While getting a guilty verdict on violent conduct matters to us, we prefer that the violence not happen at all. When it happens, we will be there to serve and protect in all situations.”
The prosecutor in the case, Assistant District Attorney James Bryant, said at sentencing that the DA’s Office supports treatment and rehabilitation for defendants who need it and are committed to making the effort and taking the steps to change their ways; however, when those attempts at treatment and rehabilitation fail, the mission becomes to protect the people of Ulster County from those who commit violent felonies.
District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji said that “Ms. Supple has been involved in other intimate partner violence resulting in injuries, and she continues to engage in conduct harmful to herself and others. The facts and circumstances of this case, as well as her most recent activities, warrant her incarceration for everyone’s safety. Hopefully she will attain a level of sobriety and awareness about her behavior and make adjustments to live without threatening others in intimate and non-intimate situations. I hope her incarceration opens her eyes and she receives intensive programs and treatment for the duration.”
The defendant was represented by attorney Randy Siper of Orange County.
