    Prosecutors have the privilege of working closely with police officers, honorable men and women, fathers and mothers, who put their lives on the line to protect the public. Yet, there is a very small percentage of officers who are rogue actors, who stain all of law enforcement, undermine the principle of equal justice, and at times wrongfully deprive others of liberty and even life itself. Shamefully, far too many of the individuals wrongly harmed or killed have been persons of color. These despicable acts erode the critical bonds of community trust.

Clegg announced the creation of a Special Crimes Unit to address COVID-19 related crimes. “We believe there is a growing need to combat the fraudsters and scammers that take advantage of the fears and vulnerabilities created by the pandemic,” said Clegg.

KINGSTON, NY— On Monday April 10, 2023, Seth Young, age 49, of Esopus, pled guilty without any promises to his entire three count indictment charging him with the felonies of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and two counts of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, after jurors from all parts of the County had assembled and selection of jurors was about to begin.

ULSTER COUNTY DA’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES SAUGERTIES MAN’S SENTENCE FOLLOWING CONVICTION OF PREDATORY SEXUAL ABUSE AGAINST A CHILD

KINGSTON, NY— On March 20, 2023, Benjamin Santiago, age 28, of Saugerties, NY, was sentenced by Hon. Bryan Rounds in Ulster County Court to twenty (20) years to life following a June 17, 2022 conviction of Predatory Sexual Abuse Against a Child, a Class A-II felony.

ULSTER COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY ANNOUNCES ARRAIGNMENT ON SEALED INDICTMENT IN TOWN OF PLATTEKILL NEW YEAR’S DAY MURDER

KINGSTON, NY— On March 10, 2023, Ulster County District Attorney’s Office arraigned Junando Dawkins, age 29, of Newburgh, in connection with an indictment charging him with Murder in the Second Degree and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. The defendant was remanded to Ulster County Jail without bail by the Honorable Sara McGinty following his extradition from North Carolina.

ULSTER COUNTY DA’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES CONVICTION OF NEW ROCHELLE MAN FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE-RELATED CHARGES FOLLOWING FOUR-DAY JURY TRIAL

KINGSTON, NY— Enri Gjinaj, age 34, of New Rochelle, NY, was convicted of two Counts of Criminal Contempt in the First Degree following a four-day jury trial before the Honorable Bryan Rounds, beginning February 14 and concluding on February 17, 2023. Defendant faces up to eight years in state prison.

ULSTER COUNTY DA’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES CONVICTION OF KINGSTON MAN FOR  PREDATORY SEXUAL ASSAULT AGAINST A CHILD

KINGSTON, NY— Joseph Buboltz, Sr., age 67, of Kingston, pleaded guilty to Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child, a class A-II felony, before the Honorable Bryan Rounds on February 7, 2023. Defendant faces a mandatory life sentence with the eligibility of parole in no less than fifteen years when he is sentenced.
