      KINGSTON, NY – On October 31, 2024, Carlos Ayala, age 39, a parolee from the State of Connecticut, was sentenced in Ulster County Court by the Honorable Bryan E. Rounds to five years in State Prison following a guilty plea to Strangulation in the Second Degree, a class D felony.

    Kingston, NY—On November 8, 2024, Dasany Naveo, age 23, of Ellenville, pled guilty to Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a class C felony, before the Honorable James Farrell. Naveo is scheduled to be sentenced on January 10, 2025.

    KINGSTON, NY—On October 24, 2024, Raymond Snyder, age 41, of Kingston, was convicted of Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Burglary in the First Degree for the murder of another Kingston man, Romero Underwood. The verdict follows eight-day jury trial before the Honorable James Farrell, visiting Judge from Sullivan County.

    Kingston, NY—On October 10, 2024, William Mayo, age 42, of Kingston, was sentenced to fifteen years in state prison for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a violent felony, and to five years in state prison for his conviction of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree to run consecutively for a total sentence of twenty years.

    KINGSTON, NY—On October 8, 2024, Alixandro Peraza Varela, age 45, of New Paltz, was sentenced in Ulster County Court to seven years in state prison with ten years of post-release supervision by Honorable Bryan E. Rounds for his conviction of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a class D-violent felony. This is the maximum sentence provided by law for such level sex offense.

    The passing of Nina Postupack is sad news. I have known Nina throughout my career as a prosecutor.   She was to me a genuine example of a public servant – from the way she conducted herself and her office, including the way I observed her treat her employees and DMV clerks in the County Office building. I saw her with my own eyes treat people on a long DMV line with dignity and respect– that meant so much for me to see.

    KINGSTON, NY—Joseph Karolys, age 39, of Saugerties, was sentenced to 25 years in State Prison, plus five years of post-release supervision, to run concurrently on his convictions of Manslaughter in the First Degree and Assault in the First Degree.  He was also sentenced to additional 1 1/3 to 4 years for his conviction of Tampering with Physical Evidence; he must serve this sentence in addition to the 25 years.
