Kingston, NY—On October 15, 2024, Angela Fischl, age 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of Leaving the Scene of an incident Resulting in Death before the Honorable Bryan Rounds. Judge Rounds then sentenced Fischl to five years’ Probation and six months in the Ulster County Jail, and revoked her driver’s license.
The plea and sentence are in connection to the March 1, 2024, hit-and-run resulting in the deaths of Donna Cristallo and Stephen Celuch, both of Kingston. Cristallo and Celuch had been crossing the roadway on Route 9W in the Town of Marlborough when they were struck by a 2020 Kia Forte operated by Angela Fischl. Ms. Fischl did not stop to check or render aid; she was stopped and identified by law enforcement several minutes later on Route 9W in Newburgh as she was driving her badly damaged vehicle. Family members of both victims spoke at sentencing, describing the vibrant lives of the victims and expressing the acuteness of their losses.
The thorough investigation was a collaboration of the New York State Police and the Collision Reconstruction Unit, Town of Marlborough Police Department, and the DA’s Office.
District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji said, “This was a tragic circumstance; had she stopped as required by law and rendered aid, she most likely would not have faced such serious charges given the total circumstances revealed to us by the evidence in this case. It is truly important to stop because any aid rendered quickly might be the difference for surviving such accidents. Also, it really means something to the family of a victim and the community to know that you cared. As users of the roads in various ways, we all have a responsibility to everyone.”
Deputy Chief ADA Paul Derohannesian prosecuted the case. The defendant was represented by Newburgh defense attorney Derek Andrews.
