KINGSTON MAN INDICTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER FOR JUNE 19, 2024 HAMMER ATTACK OF VICTIM ON BROADWAY

Posted July 26, 2024

Kingston, NY - On July 23, 2024, William Knox, Jr, aka “Billy Knox”, age 54, of Kingston, NY, was arraigned on an indictment charging him with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. The indictment was handed up by an Ulster County Grand Jury on July 12, 2024.

The indictment arises out of a June 19, 2024 incident when Knox followed a female adult victim after she rejected his sexual advances. The victim changed her direction and attempted to cross Broadway in apparent attempt to avoid the defendant, but he caught up to her in the middle of Broadway and accosted her, knocking her down and repeatedly striking her on her head with a hammer until she was unable to move. He then left her laying helpless in the middle of Broadway.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Culmone-Mills said “The rapid advancement of this case from crime to courtroom demonstrates our unwavering commitment to justice. Let it be known that those who perpetrate violence in our county will be met with the full force of justice”.

Knox was remanded without bail to the Ulster County Jail following arguments before the Honorable Bryan Rounds.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. This case is being prosecuted by Chief ADA Culmone-Mills. The defendant is represented by Mark Formichelli of the Dutchess County Public Defender's Office.
