KINGSTON, NY – On January 26, 2024, Nyqwuan Monroe, age 25, of Schenectady, pled guilty to Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I felony, before the Honorable Thomas Marcelle, the same day pretrial hearings were scheduled. Monroe faces up to 25 years to life in prison. 

On July 27, 2023, Monroe, a convicted felon, traveled to the City of Kingston in possession of a loaded firearm. While in Kingston, the defendant, along with two codefendants, entered the home of Dominique Green. While inside Green’s residence, Monroe shot and killed Green, then handed off the gun to a co-defendant to dispose. The firearm was later recovered. DNA evidence recovered from the firearm and a bullet inside it matched the defendant. After the incident, Monroe and his co-defendants returned to Schenectady. All three were arrested the following day in an expeditious collaborative effort by the Kingston Police Department and the New York State Police.

The lead prosecutor in the case, ADA Jenna Hastings, Special Victims Bureau Chief, said that “Nyqwuan Monroe is the individual who shot and killed a young man in his own home. Today’s plea reflects that. However, there is no plea that can ever heal the pain and trauma that his actions caused the family and loved ones of Dominique Green.” 

“Working together, we have taken an incredibly dangerous individual off the street,” said Chief Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Culmone-Mills who was also involved in the case. The case was prosecuted by Special Victims Bureau Chief Jenna Hastings and Chief Assistant Elizabeth Culmone-Mills. Monroe was represented by conflict defender Jason Richland of the Dutchess County Public Defender’s Office. 

Sentencing is scheduled for March 18, 2024, before the Honorable Thomas Marcelle.
