Ulster County recognizes the environmental and economic benefits of deploying Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station infrastructure. Adopted by the County Legislature and approved by the County Executive, Local Law #9 of 2015, Establishing a Sustainable Green Fleet Policy commits Ulster County to "move toward zero emission vehicles by promoting the use of electric, hybrid-electric, hybrid, and sustainable green vehicles by residents and will do so by:
1) Giving priority to purchasing hybrid, hybrid-electric, battery-electric, and sustainable green vehicles; and
2) Installing electric vehicle charging stations at County-owned facilities. See Resolution No. 332 of 2015, and amendment Resolution No. 446.1 of 2015.
3) Supporting initiatives and research which will lead to the further deployment of electric, hybrid-electric, hybrid, and sustainable green vehicles across the community."
These stations provide multiple layers of benefits: they are used to charge the County fleet, they provide workplace charging access to 97% of County government employees, and they are available for local residents, tourists and regional visitors to use as well. Recognizing the regional economic benefits of offering access to EV charging infrastructure, the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce sponsors a portion of charging sessions so that the public can use the service free of charge.
Additionally, charging stations that are not owned by the County are located at various tourist destinations throughout the region. Visit www.plugshare.com and type "Ulster County" in the search engine to locate a charging station.
