Epidemiologist Eve Walter, who was appointed by Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger to the position of Director of Public Health after a rigorous selection process, has been confirmed by the County Legislature at its October session by a vote of 13 to 10.
KINGSTON, NY—On October 8, 2024, Alixandro Peraza Varela, age 45, of New Paltz, was sentenced in Ulster County Court to seven years in state prison with ten years of post-release supervision by Honorable Bryan E. Rounds for his conviction of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, a class D-violent felony. This is the maximum sentence provided by law for such level sex offense.
The passing of Nina Postupack is sad news. I have known Nina throughout my career as a prosecutor. She was to me a genuine example of a public servant – from the way she conducted herself and her office, including the way I observed her treat her employees and DMV clerks in the County Office building. I saw her with my own eyes treat people on a long DMV line with dignity and respect– that meant so much for me to see.
